Joining SAR

The SAR welcomes new members.  Click here for Objects and Eligibilty.  You may contact one of the chapters listed to the left to attend one of their meetings and for assistance in the application process.    For additonal help with the application process, contact Helper@WASSAR.info.

Since each generation of your lineage must be proven, if you can connect with a relative who has already joined the SAR or the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), the process is easier.  Members in good standing in the C.A.R. (Children of the American Revolution) ages 18-22 may have the SAR application fee waived.  The National SAR website has additional information.

Requirements for Membership and for Application gives general information of classes of membership and the application process.  Dues submitted with an application are refundable if the application is not accepted, but application fees are not refundable.

You can start the process with the Application Worksheet, and Instructions.

The Application can then be filled out in a MS Word document, with Additional Instructions.  When completed, the application must be printed on a special archival paper.

One of the largest sources of free and online genealogical information is www.FamilySearch.org.  Bear in mind, however, that while source material is available at that site, much of the compiled information was not submitted by professional genealogists, and original sources need to be verified.  This site will also provide access to over 75 local Family History Centers in Washington State that are open free to the public.
